Bali Day 2 – Unusual Lovina beach

Lovina beach wasn’t as nice as we were imagining. It wasn’t the cleanest beach but had a wide selection of eating places and some of them offering live music. It was pleasant enough for a walk but not ideal for swimming.

On our 3 months trip around Asia we didn’t have many lazy days where we would just relax but today was one of them. Seems like many tourists who come to Bali from busy Java has the same need for rest as we did.

Relaxation from our perspective isn’t only about sitting but also some activities, at least walking. Apart from catching up with emails, reading about our next destinations, updating travel log in the hotel lobby (the Ray Beach Inn) we had to check out the Lovina beach and I must say that it wasn’t entirely what we were imagining.

Lovina beach wasn’t as pleasant as beaches in Thailand for example… Some parts were nice, usually in front of hotels but other parts had chickens and their excrement, rubbish and the sand in Lovina is dark colored from the original volcanic activity that created the island.

As we walked along the beach in the evening from time to time we came across dogs barking at us. To be honest we didn’t even think about swimming in here. We were really excited about Bali part of our holiday and so far we weren’t too impressed… At least a bit further away from the beach there were many restaurants to choose from – many offering live music, small shops and stalls selling various things. Many sellers were nagging us to buy souvenirs etc. as we passed stalls. Anyhow, we tried to ignore all that and enjoy our walk and beautiful sunset. It seemed weird that the whole area was geared towards tourist apart from the beach that wasn’t that attractive.

We completed our day with delicious meal in one of the hotel’s restaurant near the beach and it was a bit pricey but we felt like we deserved some luxury treatment. Apart from lovely meal we really enjoyed live music and singing performed by Balinese band.
